Contents Insurance in Cyprus

Your landlord's policy doesn't cover your laptop, sofa, or clothes. A Contents Only policy does, from €80/year for €15,000 of cover.

From €80/year

Contents cover is voluntary for tenants in Cyprus. Worth knowing: your landlord's policy stops at the walls. One burst pipe in the flat upstairs can write off €8,000 of electronics by the time you get home from work. Underwritten by a licensed Cyprus insurer.

Compare and save

We're an independent broker. That means we put licensed Cyprus insurers head-to-head and bring you the rate that actually fits your contents value, not whatever one company happens to quote.

60-second quote

Five questions. No building-value field, no irrelevant property questions. Tell us your contents value and your district, and your premium lands in your inbox within minutes.

Bundle discounts

Add car insurance and you save 10 to 20% on the combined policy. Most of our tenant clients in Limassol and Paphos do exactly that, usually after their first claim.

3-language support

We work in English, Russian, and Greek. Every document, every call, in your language. No surprise translations after a claim has already been opened.

How much does contents insurance cost in Cyprus?

I get asked this every week, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you own. For a Cyprus tenant, contents cover usually runs €100 to €130 a year for €30,000 of insured belongings (source: SST Insurance Consultant, August 2025). The default sum insured of €15,000 sits at the low end at around €80 a year. If you've got serious electronics or jewellery and need €50,000 of cover, you're looking at €130 to €220.

Contents ValueAnnual Premium

€30,000 contents€100 to €130
€50,000 contents€130 to €220

Premiums shown are indicative bands based on broker market data (August 2025). Your exact rate depends on your district, building age, claims history, and any high-risk items you declare.

What does Contents Only insurance cover?

A Contents Only policy (e.g. AE-CY-CONTENTS-12.2018 reference) protects your belongings against named perils inside your rented home. It pays out on a first-loss basis, which means the insurer won't penalise you for under-insurance up to the sum insured.

Fire, smoke, lightning, explosion, and earthquake

Theft and attempted theft (police report required within 7 days)

Storm and flood damage to your contents

Escape of water or oil from plumbing (the upstairs-leak scenario)

Riot, strike, and civil commotion

Malicious acts and vandalism

Vehicle, aircraft, animal, or falling-tree impact

Contents Only sub-limits (verified from policy IPID)

Pick your district and property type

Two dropdowns. Limassol, Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca, Famagusta, or Free Areas, plus apartment or house. That's the entire risk-rating side of the form.

Who should buy contents insurance in Cyprus?

30.6% of Cyprus households rent (Eurostat 2024), and that share keeps climbing. If you're one of them, your landlord insures the building, not your stuff. Five tenant profiles I see most often.

Expat professionals in Limassol or Paphos

You shipped your electronics over. A laptop, monitor, camera kit, and a half-decent sound system add up to €5,000 fast. From the day you sign the lease, your contents are covered behind your front door.

Russian-speaking residents

Limassol's Russian-speaking community usually arrives with high-value imported contents. We handle policies, claims, and certificates in Russian, so nothing slips through translation when you actually need to file something.

Local employees in rented apartments

Nicosia and Limassol professionals renting their first or second flat. €80 a year for €15,000 of cover is a cheap insurance habit to start before the next pay rise lands.

Students and shared-flat tenants

Lower premiums for lower contents values. A €10,000 sum insured covers a laptop, bike, phone, and your share of the shared furniture without overpaying for cover you'll never use.

Digital nomads on a Cyprus visa

Short tenancies, expensive kit (camera, laptop, drone). Add the all-risks extension for valuables outside the home and you're covered when the gear comes with you on a trip.

If you're an expat, take a look at our expat health insurance and immigration medical insurance. And if you also own a place back home or a second property here, holiday home insurance handles that side.

Does your landlord's insurance cover your belongings?

Short answer: no. This question lands in my inbox every few days, usually after someone's already had a leak or a break-in. Your landlord's block of flats insurance or home insurance covers the structure of the building. It does not cover anything you brought through the door.
