Quick Summary
The best yacht insurance in Cyprus comes down to your vessel and how you sail, not to one brand. Strong local options include Trust, Cosmos yachtCARE, Atlantic, SoEasy, Genikes and Minerva, with cover from €25 a year. As an independent Cyprus broker, DigiCare compares these insurers side by side, and for high-value yachts or worldwide cruising we arrange Lloyd's-backed cover through London Marine. There is no single best yacht insurer in Cyprus. The best policy is the one that matches your vessel, how far you sail and what the boat is worth. DigiCare Insurance is an independent Cyprus broker, so we compare the whole licensed market instead of selling one company's product.

That leaves you with two routes. For everyday craft cruising Cyprus or Greek waters, we compare the local insurers named below. For valuable yachts, catamarans or worldwide sailing, we arrange Lloyd's-backed cover.

This guide walks you through your yacht insurance options in Cyprus so you can choose with confidence.

How do you choose the best yacht insurance in Cyprus?

Look at four things on every quote: the cover basis, the third-party liability (TPL) limits, whether your own vessel is protected, and the price against your boat's value. Weigh those together and the right policy usually picks itself. No single brand wins for everyone.

Start with the cover basis. A good policy follows the London Institute Yacht Clauses, the standard wording used across the London and Lloyd's marine market. TPL covers damage or injury you cause to others. Comprehensive cover goes further and protects your own hull and machinery too.

Then match the policy to how you actually use the boat. A small motorboat that never leaves one marina needs far less than a 15-metre yacht that runs to Greece every summer. We line up that comparison for you across Trust, Cosmos, Atlantic and the other insurers below, so you can see the trade-offs before you commit to anything.

Best yacht insurance in Cyprus 2026: providers compared

Cyprus has a solid panel of licensed marine insurers, and each one is strong in a different area. The table below sets the main yacht products next to each other. We list them by name only, with neutral coverage notes, so you can see where each fits before you ask for quotes.

Every insurer on that list is licensed and supervised by the Cyprus Superintendent of Insurance, the Insurance Companies Control Service within the Ministry of Finance. So a broker's job here is not to vet solvency; it is to match the right cover to your boat at the best price. Comparison updated July 2026.

What this means for you:
A neutral comparison beats any single-brand page. Each insurer talks up its own product, and only a broker puts all of them in front of you at once, so you weigh cover against price rather than take one company's word for it. You can compare Cyprus yacht insurers through us in a single request.

What does the best yacht insurance policy cover?

A good Cyprus yacht policy is built on the London Institute Yacht Clauses. It covers hull and machinery damage, third-party liability, pollution, salvage and wreck removal, legal defence, personal effects on board and transit risks. Third-party only policies cover damage you cause to others, but not your own vessel.

Here is what a solid comprehensive policy should include:

Hull and machinery damage

Collision, grounding, fire and storm damage to your own vessel.

Third-party liability

For bodily injury and property damage you cause to others.

Pollution and environmental liability

Covers clean-up and environmental damage claims.

Salvage and wreck removal

Costs of recovering or removing your vessel after an incident.

Legal defence costs

Covers your legal costs if a claim or dispute arises.

Personal effects and equipment on board

Cover for belongings and gear kept on the vessel.

Transit risks

Cover when your vessel is moved overland, for example by trailer.

Crew liability

Cover if you employ crew on board.

Extras like racing cover, water-skier liability, war and strikes cover and trailer cover sit outside the standard policy. We deal with those in the specific-vessels section below. The London Institute Yacht Clauses are the reason cover looks broadly similar from one insurer to the next; the real differences are in the limits, the exclusions and the price.

Third-party liability vs comprehensive: which is best for your boat?

Third-party liability (TPL) covers damage you cause to others and starts from about €25 a year. It meets marina and Greek-law requirements. Comprehensive cover adds protection for your own vessel, including theft, storm damage and salvage, and runs to roughly 1-3% of the hull value. TPL suits small or low-value boats. Comprehensive suits valuable ones.

Your deductible (the excess you pay on a claim) is the main lever between price and cover. A higher excess brings the premium down, but it leaves you carrying more of any small claim yourself. For most owners of yachts insurance in Cyprus worth more than €40,000, comprehensive cover is the sensible call.

How much does the best yacht insurance cost in Cyprus?

Third-party liability starts from €25 a year for a small motorboat. Comprehensive cover runs at roughly 1-3% of the hull value. A yacht insured for €100,000 costs about €1,000-3,000 a year, and a €500,000 yacht costs about €5,000-15,000. These are real 2026 figures from the Cyprus broker market.
Vessel typeEstimated annual premium
Small motorboat (up to 25 hp)From €25
Motorboat (up to 100 hp)From €59
Motorboat (up to 200 hp)From €68
Cabin cruiser / speedboat (€40,000 value)€400-1,200
Yacht (€100,000 value)€1,000-3,000
Yacht (€500,000 value)€5,000-15,000

Six things set your exact rate: the vessel's insured value, its age and condition, the hull type, where you keep it, your navigation area and your experience as a skipper. Older vessels and wider cruising ranges push premiums up. Stay within Cyprus waters and they come down. High-value or worldwide cover is rated one boat at a time, so there is no online calculator; we quote it on request. Price basis updated July 2026.

What this means for you:
Match the cover level to the value at stake. Paying 1-3% a year to protect a €100,000 asset is proportionate. Paying comprehensive rates on a €3,000 dinghy is not. Our full guide to how much yacht insurance costs breaks the bands down further.

Is yacht insurance compulsory in Cyprus?

No. Yacht insurance is not compulsory under Cyprus national law. Two rules still make it necessary in practice, though. Marinas in Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos want proof of third-party liability before you berth. And Greek Law 4926/2022 makes TPL compulsory for recreational craft under 300 gross tonnage (GT), which covers almost every private yacht and speedboat, Cyprus-flagged boats sailing to Greece included.

One common myth is worth clearing up here. Some sources say Cypriot law requires TPL for boats in local waters. It does not. The requirement is contractual (your marina's mooring agreement) or foreign (Greek law when you sail there), not a Cyprus national legal duty. Limassol Marina and other operators set the berth condition, and the Cyprus Ports Authority may apply similar insurance conditions at public harbours.

If you sail to Greece, your Cyprus TPL has to meet the Greek minimum limits. The Hellenic Coast Guard checks documents during inspections and fines non-compliance €150.

Coverage typeMinimum limit
Bodily injury per person€150,000
Bodily injury per incident€700,000

Broker vs buying direct: which gets you the best deal?

Buy direct and you are tied to one insurer's price and its appetite for risk. An independent broker quotes the whole licensed panel and finds the fit for your boat. DigiCare clients typically save 10-20% once we have shopped around, and multi-policy discounts of up to 20% apply when you bundle home or car cover.

Every insurer we compare, from Trust and Cosmos to Atlantic, SoEasy, Genikes, Minerva and Pantaenius, is licensed and supervised by the Cyprus Superintendent of Insurance. So choosing between them is not about safety. It is about which one gives you the right cover at the right price for your vessel. That comparison is exactly what a broker does.

We handle the paperwork too. Once you pick a policy, we send your certificate so you can berth or sail without a wait. You can get a free yacht insurance quote and leave the shopping around to us.

Best yacht insurance for jet skis, speedboats, older yachts and charter

Jet skis and speedboats can be insured from €25 for TPL, older yachts over 15 years may need a survey, charter operations need higher TPL and crew liability, and racing needs a separate extension. Standard personal policies don't cover charter or racing use automatically.

Not every vessel fits a standard policy. Here is how cover changes by type:

  • Jet skis and speedboats. A speedboat clause usually applies to craft capable of more than 17 knots, which affects rating and conditions. Small fast craft can still be insured from €25 for TPL.
  • Older yachts (over 15 years). Insurers may ask for a recent surveyor's report or condition survey before they offer cover. We place these vessels with specialist marine markets.
  • Charter and commercial use. A charter operation needs higher TPL limits, hull cover and crew liability. Standard personal policies exclude commercial use, so tell us if you charter the boat.
  • Racing. Standard yacht policies exclude racing. You need a specific extension to cover regattas or competitive events.

A boating licence is separate from insurance, but insurers do want a valid licence for the craft's power and size. Our guide to buying a boat in Cyprus covers licensing and registration, and the Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry handles vessel registration and the Small Vessel Register.

Best cover for high-value yachts, catamarans and worldwide cruising

For valuable yachts, catamarans or worldwide sailing, DigiCare arranges an owner's Hull & Machinery plus Third-Party Liability policy through London Marine Insurance Services (LMIS), a Lloyd's-accredited managing general agent (MGA) based in London and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. It runs on the same London Institute Yacht Clauses used across the market, but with worldwide navigational limits that local Cyprus policies do not offer.

The navigational limits are set in a Confirmation of Cover (COC) and can include ocean and canal crossings. The policy covers high-value yachts and catamarans (multihull sailing yachts) on an agreed-value basis, so the insured value is fixed up front. Cover extends to hull and machinery, third-party liability, passenger and crew liability, pollution, personal property, tenders and trailers, medical payments, uninsured boaters, theft, wind exposure and regattas.

To be straight about the limits: standard exclusions include trimarans, racing, war and piracy, willful misconduct, wear and tear or lack of maintenance, and commercial use unless the underwriters agree it. It costs more than a basic local TPL policy. But for owners who want Lloyd's-backed security and the freedom to sail anywhere, it is one of the best solutions going.

There is no online calculator for this cover; it is underwritten individually. We submit a short vessel questionnaire, the underwriter issues a bespoke Confirmation of Cover, and you settle the premium by invoice. It pairs well with our guide to yacht charter insurance in Greece if your cruising takes you across the Mediterranean.

What this means for you:
When a vessel's value or cruising range outgrows a local policy, a Lloyd's-backed worldwide policy through London Marine is the fit. Ask us for a bespoke quote and we will handle the London-market submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no single "best" brand. The right policy depends on your vessel, sailing area and budget. Strong local options include Trust, Cosmos yachtCARE, Atlantic, SoEasy, Genikes, Minerva and international specialist Pantaenius. As an independent broker, DigiCare compares them to find your fit.
Third-party liability starts from €25 a year for a small motorboat. The best yacht insurance is the right fit, not one brand

The best yacht insurance in Cyprus is the policy that matches your vessel, your sailing area and its value, not the biggest name on the market. Local insurers such as Trust, Cosmos, Atlantic, SoEasy, Genikes and Minerva each suit different boats, with cover from €25 a year.

As an independent broker, DigiCare compares that whole panel, and for high-value yachts or worldwide cruising we place Lloyd's-backed cover through London Marine.
