How Much Professional Indemnity Insurance Do You Need?
Pick your profession and see the minimum limit of indemnity your regulator actually requires, with the rulebook article it comes from.
PI cover from €180/year
Minimum limits are set by your professional body, not by the insurer. ICPAC, ETEK and the Cyprus Bar each publish their own figure, and each can revise it by resolution.

DigiCare Insurance is a licensed Cyprus insurance agency. In Cyprus the minimum professional indemnity limit is set by your professional body, not by law in general: ICPAC requires €200,000 per claim for accountants and auditors, the Cyprus Bar requires €170,860 per claim for advocates, and ETEK requires €300,000 for architects and engineers. Consultants and CySEC-regulated firms have no regulatory minimum at all. Cover starts from €180 a year.

What is the minimum PI cover for your profession?
One tap. The limit turns on your profession, so there is nothing else to answer — except for doctors, where the figure moves by specialty.
Choose your profession
This tells you what your regulator or your contract requires. What a policy actually pays depends on its own wording, limits and excess, which we go through with you before you buy.
Every profession
Minimum professional indemnity cover in Cyprus, by profession
The same figures the checker uses, in one table — because a number worth quoting should be readable without running a tool.

Minimum limit · Set by your client's contract
CySEC-regulated firms (CIF)
Required? · No. Not a condition of the licence.
Minimum limit · Set by counterparties and contracts
Every figure here is a floor, not a ceiling. One corporate file, one large project or one contested claim can exhaust a statutory minimum on its own, and defence costs run alongside the limit rather than instead of it. Most established practices buy well above their regulator's number.
One point is worth stating plainly, because the opposite is repeated widely and it is wrong: professional indemnity insurance is not a condition of a CySEC licence. It is commercially expected — counterparties, banks and institutional clients ask for it — but no CySEC rule compels a Cyprus Investment Firm to hold it. Fund managers are a separate question again, because there the duty follows the licence class rather than the sector.
The healthcare figures are the one set here that is not a regulator's published schedule. They are the minimums Cyprus insurers apply in practice under the 2017 amendment, so treat them as the market standard and confirm your own specialty. There is more detail on professional indemnity for doctors, including how a clinic's limit differs from an individual practitioner's.
Working abroad
Does your PI policy follow you outside Cyprus?
This is where most professionals get caught, and it is not the question they think they are asking. Two different things are written into every policy, and a policy can be generous on one and silent on the other.
| The term | What it actually decides |
|---|---|
| Territorial limit | Where the work, the advice or the error took place. |
| Jurisdiction | Where a claim against you can be brought — which courts' judgments the policy will answer. |
| Worldwide territory, EU jurisdiction | A common combination, and the one that surprises people. You are covered for work done anywhere, but only if the claim is heard in a court inside the EU. |
DigiCare places professional indemnity on a worldwide territorial basis, excluding the United States and Canada. That covers work for clients across the EU, the UK, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. It does not answer a claim brought in a US or Canadian court.
So if a client contract names US or Canadian courts, tell us before anything is bound. It changes which insurer can help and what the wording has to say, and it is better resolved at quotation than at claim. We publish this plainly on purpose: a policy that quietly excludes the jurisdiction your largest contract names is worse than no policy at all, because you priced the risk as covered and staffed the job accordingly.
Territory does not change your regulator's minimum. ICPAC still wants €200,000 whether your clients are in Nicosia or Nairobi. What territory changes is whether the policy responds when the claim actually lands.
Price
What does professional indemnity insurance cost in Cyprus?
The limit is what your regulator requires. The premium is what you pay for it, and the two are unrelated numbers that get confused constantly. Cover starts from €180 a year.
| Who you are | Typical annual premium |
|---|---|
| Sole practitioner or freelance consultant | €180–€350 |
| Small law practice | €400–€800 |
| Medical practice | €600–€1,200 |
| Architecture or engineering firm | €700–€1,500 |
Four things move the number: the limit you buy, your annual fee income, what you actually advise on, and where your clients are. Widening territory beyond Cyprus raises the premium, because a claim heard abroad costs considerably more to defend than one heard in Nicosia.
These are indicative ranges for a straightforward risk, not quotations. For the full breakdown by profession, cover and excess, see professional indemnity insurance in Cyprus.

For the full product detail, see professional indemnity insurance in Cyprus. If you also meet clients in person or work on their premises, public liability insurance covers a different risk entirely, and employers' liability insurance is separately compulsory in Cyprus the moment you employ anyone.
